These days, such a thing no longer works. This is because parents are both too busy with their respective careers to spend time teaching their children basic arithmetic and English. Overtime at the office or workplace usually forces these parents to come home long after dinnertime. As a result, their young children turn to their older brothers, sisters, or peers for homework help. But they cannot always be expected to rely on their siblings, who also have school work of their own.

Letting the situation be is also not a good option. School is a lot more competitive than it used to be. Your child may be going through a serious problem and may end up failing a grade. And if he or she is not able to tackle the basic building blocks of education such as arithmetic or rules of grammar, the child will have even more difficulty with more advanced work later on, which is grounded on these basic concepts.
If you sense that your child is having such troubles, try to set up a meeting with one of his schoolteachers. They will be able to give you an evaluation of your child’s performance in class. Also, they can clue you in on his strengths and weaknesses. That way, you will be able to determine if you should be hiring math tutors or English tutors.

One of the most likely candidates to do the tutoring is the teacher himself. If the school prohibits its own teachers from conducting tutorials, perhaps he will be able to refer you to a fellow educator outside the faculty who can provide such services. In the meantime, he might be able to recommend certain books or resources for the child to improve his understanding in the subject that is his waterloo.

If that doesn’t work out for you, there are many tutoring agencies that you can contact. You don’t even have to go door to door these days to find a good one. Some of the most convenient ones are literally at your fingertips. Online agencies give you the privilege of looking for the right candidate. You can have access to various profiles and see for yourself which one meets your child’s needs. Make sure to check their academic background to be sure that these people can indeed supplement your child’s knowledge. Inquiries are just a click away and are often answered within the day.

When you’ve found some prospective tutors, set up a personal meeting with them. If possible, also include your child in the meeting. You will be able to orient him or her to your child’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as his interests. A good tutor can use his background on the child’s fortes, interests, and general personality as a basis for developing effective teaching tools. If the child’s problem is partly a lack of interest, incorporating the lessons in something that actually fascinates the child may be very helpful in speeding up the learning process.

Hiring tutors is not something to be ashamed of. It also doesn’t mean that your child is less intelligent than his peers. Take it as an opportunity to get to know your child better and help him with his education. After some facilitation of learning with the tutor, the child will eventually be able to pick up techniques of his own and be able to stand on his own two feet.

All they have to do is to live in your house, where they can have full use of the facilities. Not only do they get to have free accommodation, they do not have to tackle arduous tasks like maids, nor do they have to deal with the same problems as babysitters. After all, the house isn’t going anywhere soon.

But when you have to go out of town for some reason with the entire family, you may realize the value of house sitters. With nobody watching the house, it becomes more prone to robbery. Valuables such as heirloom pieces of furniture and household appliances are at risk. If you have pets, there will be nobody to feed them or take them on walks. Plants will not receive regular watering and may wither and die. The whole place may accumulate cobwebs and dust. All these considerations are such a headache that some families cancel their trips altogether. This will not be necessary if you can just find a good house sitter.

The first step is to look for potential housesitters. Distant family members or a relative that is coming to town for a vacation are ideal. Family friends or people you trust are always good bets. However, they may not always be available. In this scenario, you could always go online and scour online agencies. The same agencies that provide you with babysitters or pet sitters may also have databases for housesitters. At least, you will be able to ensure that they are trustworthy, since all their personal details are held by the agency and can easily be tracked down in the event of foul play.

Invite the potential candidates to see the house and have an informal chitchat. Just make sure you don’t keep it too informal. They should know exactly what is expected of them. Brief them on the following details:

- What times they are expected to stay in the house.

- If they are allowed to bring friends inside the house, and the number of people they are allowed to bring in. Remember that the more people in the house, the harder it will be to control them. The person you hire may be trustworthy but you can’t always be too sure about his friends.

- Extra duties such as tending the plants, cleaning the pool, or feeding the pets. If this is part of your agreement, be sure to brief him or her on the particular feeding and watering schedules, and some clear do’s and don’ts. If you have other people to do this part-time, then acquaint the house sitter with their schedules and contact numbers.

- If you expect your housesitters to also act as temporary housekeepers, make sure that the person is okay with that. He or she may have to be paid above the regular fee, since this is not always in the scope of house sitting duties. If a temporary housekeeper comes in on certain days, make sure the sitter knows the schedule. Leave a list of the ground rules you’ve discussed, so that your sitter doesn’t forget them.

Assess your candidate’s responses, and avoid hiring somebody who seems irresponsible or juvenile. You may think it doesn’t take much to watch a house, but a lot of damage can be caused if the sitter accidentally causes a fire or puts together a house party. Remember, maturity is not based on age. A middle-aged sitter may be just as likely to be negligent as a young man or woman.

In case the sitter falls ill or has to cancel at the last minute, always have a back-up sitter. Make sure the sitter knows where to reach you in case of emergencies.

Hiring house sitters takes a moderate amount of planning, so do take the time and effort for it. After all, you would want to return to find your residence intact, and as good as new.

The topic of senior caregivers usually comes up during a business trip or family vacation when the more elderly family members are unable to come along. This will also mean that nobody is left at home to provide the special home nursing that these senior members require. Although some members may have voluntarily taken up the task of elderly care, doing it daily may take its toll on them and every now and then, they have to go on a well-deserved break.

But it can be tricky to find somebody who you can trust with the care of your elder family members. There are a lot of things to consider when looking for a senior caregiver.

Considerations When Hiring a Senior Caregiver

- Will he or she be a good fit with the elder family member personality-wise?

- Does he or she have knowledge or training in first aid?

- Does he or she have a lot of free time or a flexible schedule?

- Does he or she have a lot of experience in handling geriatric clients?

Locating a Senior Caregiver

To find a caregiver that answers “yes” to all these questions, the first possible option is to look for one on your own. If you have connections in the medical community, they may be able to recommend a private caregiver that specializes in senior care.

Let word get out that you are looking for a senior caregiver. There may be a lot of word-of-mouth recommendations that surface, and you may be surprised to find out how many people know someone looking for just that kind of job. Newspapers are also a good way to advertise.

The internet may also be a treasure trove. You can place an online job posting, or search online job boards for people looking for that position. Another great possibility that the Internet offers is an array of online agencies. These agencies have databases on qualified people all over the country who provide home nursing services. They can contact somebody in your location who matches the precise profile of the person you are looking for. If the elderly person who needs care is suffering from additional medical conditions, such as dementia or incontinence, you might have difficulty finding a person in your locality who has the sufficient training and experience to deal with that. That person must also be adaptable and flexible to be able to adjust to the elderly person’s demands, which can be a little taxing at times. The advantage of an online agency is that they do all the screening and hard work for you.

Senior caregivers can be a breath of fresh air, not just for you, but for your elderly family members as well. They may not be strong enough to go out and meet new people, so it will be an opportunity for them to meet and befriend another adult they can interact with.

Looking for nannies is a task that requires meticulous care. Inasmuch as you want to always be there for your children, these aren’t the medieval times when the father goes out and earns the bread while the mother has the entire day to see to the household and the children. Instead, days are fast-paced and both parents are busy at work. Who, then, to see to the child’s needs and development?

That is where a nanny comes in. We are not talking about part-time babysitters or regular household help. This profession goes all the way back to olden times where governesses took care of and educated the kids. These days, we do have school to take care of the education part, but nannies should be no less knowledgeable when it comes to child care.

Your search has to take a lot of things into consideration. You may like to think that your instinct about people is enough to serve you, but it doesn’t mean that if a person is likeable, she will instantly be the best nanny for your child.

First of all, you have to determine your own priorities. What are you looking for in a person to take care of your child? Create a profile of the ideal candidate. Include personality traits, educational attainment, years of experience, and even family background. Draft the job description and everything you will be expecting of her. Be realistic.

Now, you will have to create your own profile. This is to give the prospective candidate a glimpse into your family life and if it would suit her. Remember, it is not only your own comfort you have to worry about, but it would be better if the person you hire also feels she is a good fit for your family’s lifestyle. In this profile, place relevant information about your family and the amount of interaction she may have with each member. Don’t forget to mention if you have pets, because not all people get along with animals. Also describe the children that will be under her care, their schedule, habits, special needs, interests, and their priorities. Remember that this is a job, and like other jobs, working hours and compensation are important details to mention.

Finally, if you have these things clear, you can prepare interview questions for the qualified candidates. You will have to ask her about specific details such as her home address, education, social security number, and the extent of her training in things like first aid. Personal details such as her own family life, previous jobs and experience in nannying or child care might also be relevant. Making a list of the essential questions will keep you on track. There may be a lot of personable candidates that will dazzle you with their personality, which makes it easy to forget to ask them the important details.

When you have it all planned out, it is time to scout for that one person who will fit into your profile. You can do this by scouring newspapers or putting up ads, or asking people you trust if they can recommend anyone. The most convenient way, however, is to contact an agency. Respectable agencies are in touch with the most trained and experienced nannies in your location. They will be able to go through their files and do the background check for you. This will save you a lot of time and effort in looking for the nanny with the best fit for your family.

====================================================================

But we can’t be there for our pets all hours of the day. Inevitably, there’s always work to worry about, and the house will be empty of people every now and then. Once in a while, we have to go on a well-deserved vacation. Unfortunately, a lot of vacation destinations do not allow pets. In situations like this, it’s time to look for a pet sitter.

Whether you’re looking for dog walkers, cat sitters, or something else entirely, one old-fashioned way of catching their attention is to put up ads or notices. The classified ads in a newspaper can work, or you could always print out your own posters and put them up around the neighborhood. You could place some on bulletins or distribute some near colleges. A lot of students are animal lovers and are always looking for a few extra dollars.

You could even go the more passive route. There may be pet sitters looking for an animal to sit at precisely the same time you are looking for somebody to do that kind of work. Call it serendipity, but it is not that unusual. Keep your eyes open and look out for similar ads, posters, and flyers from the other side of the fence.

When you have a list of names and numbers with bright possibilities, start hitting the phone. This will help you narrow down your search because you can already ask a few essential questions over the phone. For example, you can ask about which types of animals the prospective sitter enjoys taking care of, or is knowledgeable about. This is important especially if your pet is something more exotic than a dog or cat. Specialized knowledge may be necessary. If you’re looking for somebody with experience, this is a good time to ask. You also have the option of asking about insurance, just in case something untoward happens when the sitter is on duty.

There is another recommended option and that is to book a sitter from an agency. You can find a lot of reputable ones online and this will save you all the trouble of having to manually distribute ads and flyers. Once you access a site for a pet-sitting agency, all you have to do is browse through the profiles of available sitters and find one suitable to your pet’s needs, which hardly takes up much of your time. You can also do a quick search for pet sitters in your vicinity, and read up on their background. This is a good idea particularly because you can never be too sure if you can find a sitter from your neighborhood who is experienced enough with animal care. An inexperienced sitter’s little mistakes may be damaging for the health of your pet.

When you have narrowed down your search to a couple of sitters, you can schedule them to meet you and your pet. This will be a good time to evaluate their interaction with your pet and tell them about feeding, exercise, and other special routines. If your pet has certain medications or conditions that need special care, this is the best time to orient them. Observe if they are listening intently or taking notes, and if your pet is responding well to them.

It may look like there are a lot of things to take into consideration when looking for a pet sitter, but it will be well worth it if you find somebody you can trust. Then you can go on a hassle-free trip with complete peace of mind and return to a pet who is as happy and healthy as ever.

There are hundreds of babysitting and nanny locator services out there. Sometimes though, people don’t really need babysitters. They need other kinds of sitters. Some people need pet sitters, house sitters, companions/ caregivers for the elderly and tutors. When you need services like these, who should you turn to? The answer is Sittercity.

Sittercity is considered the largest database for sitters of all types. The company began its operations in 2001. Although it is still comparatively new, it has become a great place for families and sitters to meet each other to answer their particular needs. Just looking at the Sittercity site, gives you an impression of just how large and comprehensive their services are. In fact, the site is so comprehensive that it could take time to fully navigate it. The services of Sittercity however, can besimply understood through its four step screening process.

Sittercity believes in letting clients screen sitters themselves. They do however provide full proof steps that can help you find the right person for the job. Step one is checking the sitter ratings. This service in itself is already quite invaluable. It is also one of a kind. Sitters in Sittercity can be ranked and reviewed by parents who have previously paid for their services. Sitter background also counts in the ranking. Those who rank the highest are listed at the top.

Step two and three let you check sitter references and conduct an interview. Whether you are a first time interviewer or an experienced one, Sittercity can help you. There are resources and guides available in the site that can help you formulate appropriate and relevant questions. There are also tips on spotting other indications of a good or a bad sitter.

Step four completes the Sittercity process. You get a complete background check on a potential sitter. This includes a basic identity check on the person’s name, social security number, address and other important information. Sitters are also checked for national criminal records, traffic violations and sex offenses.

The best thing about all these services is the convenient and affordable payment scheme. You can get all the benefits that Sittercity has to offer for a one time one year fee of $95.88.
